June 1, 1949 — July 10, 2009

Walter L. Miller, age 60, Assistant Fire Chief for Grants Pass Rural Fire Dept., passed away at home on Friday, July 10, 2009 from heart complications.

He was born June 1, 1949 to Ron & Bertha Miller in Grants Pass, Oregon. He graduated in 1967 from Grants Pass High School and furthered his education at Lane Community College where he received his associate degree in 1971. Walt, in his younger years, was active in 4-H Dairy Club, formally a member of the Jaycee and a current member of the Grants Pass Elks Lodge. He was also very active in the community with the Children’s Christmas shopping tour, 4th of July fireworks show, and the Easter egg hunts.

He started fire fighting in his pre-teens and continued into his adult years until health complications set in. He loved being a firefighter because of his passion for helping others.

Walt is survived by his wife Linda L. Miller of Grants Pass; mother, Bertha B. Miller also of Grants Pass; four sisters, Karren Cohen and Neva Harris, both of Grants Pass, Mary Miller of Greenville, Pennsylvania and Tena Price of Medford, Oregon; four step-children; nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Fruitdale Grange.
