Virginia Marie Knight

Virginia Marie Knight, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Three Rivers Medical Center.

A celebration of life will be held in August at Indian Mary Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Virginia was born April 15, 1928 in San Diego, California. In 1946 she graduated from Chula Vista High School. She later worked for the Italian internment camps in the kitchen. In 1948 she moved from Barrett, California to the Rogue Valley where she worked in her father’s tavern, The Steelhead Tavern on Savage Creek. Clark Gable turned her into the authorities accusing her of being underage. She later married and had two children. After settling down in Rogue River she worked at Kirby’s Caf for 35 years until her retirement at age 65.

For many years she was an officer and called bingo for the Rogue River VFW.

Her hobbies included Bingo and the card games, Indian Train and 13.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Cortapassi of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, Harvey Knight of Portland, Oregon; a sister Marjorie Norris of Grants Pass, Oregon; a brother, Harvey Wolfe of Redding, California; a granddaughter, Kary Cortapassi of Grants Pass, Oregon and a great-grandson, Jovan Gipson of Grants Pass, Oregon.
