Sylvia Mae "Nikki" Shanle, age 69, of Cave Junction, died October 16, 2022 at her home.
She was born on October 6th, 1953 in Fallon, Nevada to Delphas and Nancy Henderson. She spent most of her early life in Reno, Nevada where she loved spending time in the High Sierra mountains and lakes singing songs around the campfires. It was there that she raised her oldest daughter, Tahira, then moved in 1989 to Cave Junction, Oregon with her late husband, Lee Shanle and youngest daughter Lacey.
Nikki loved being a homemaker. She found joy in keeping her log cabin clean and beautifully decorated.
She spent her time tending house plants, doing yard work and caring for animals. She loved nature. Every night she was thrilled at what might be on her front porch, raccoons? Possums? Skunks? She welcomed and enjoyed them all. Her greatest joy was spending time with or talking to her grandchildren. She loved plinking, coloring and playing Jax with them. The blessing of her great grandchild being born helped her to keep fighting medical issues another whole year.
Even though Nikki had a small group of close people that surrounded her, she was very present and very caring to those near and dear to her heart. She always had a way to make birthdays and Christmas magical.
She is survived by daughters, Tahira McLeod of Nevada, Lacey Davis of Oregon, step children Michele Freeman, Jeff Shanle, Lisa Krux and Darcy Fisher, siblings Nancy Brandt, George Henderson, Neva Avery and Kathie Henderson, grandchildren Dylan Malark, Nicole Koppenaal, Trusten, Paisley and Mavrie Davis, Great grandchildren Ashton Koppenaal and another due this spring.
She will be deeply grieved, but we are thankful she is in comfort and at peace with her Lord.
Her celebration of life will be planned in the late spring once the flowers she loved so much are blooming again.
