Sue Ames

Jun 24, 1950 — Jul 4, 2026

Sue Elizabeth Ames (Brockett), 76, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026.

Born on June 24, 1950, in Fresno, California, Sue was the youngest of five children. At a middle school youth group at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, she met the love of her life, Jerry Ames. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong love story, and they were married on April 3, 1970.

Sue graduated from McLane High School and went on to work for Fresno Unified School District, where she dedicated more than 25 years before retiring. She and Jerry became well known throughout the Fresno dance community, sharing their passion for dancing with countless friends. After moving to Grants Pass, Oregon, they continued doing what they loved most—teaching, dancing, and making lifelong friendships on the dance floor.

Sue found joy in simple pleasures: spending time at the Oregon coast, visiting wineries, gathering with family and friends, and creating memories with those she loved. Her kindness, warmth, and welcoming spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Sue is survived by her lifelong dance partner of 675 months + 1 day (56 years), Jerry Ames; her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Lynn Ames; her daughter and son-in-law, Jeannine and James Grissom. Nana to Ethan and Amanda Van Dolah, Ashley Van Dolah, Carson Van Dolah, Cari and Timmy Thompson, and Brandon Moore; her two cherished great-grandchildren; her sisters, Nonie Floyd & Judy Pearson; as well as many nieces, nephews, lifelong friends, and members of the dance community who became family.

Sue’s legacy is one of unwavering love, laughter, generosity, and grace. Whether she was dancing with Jerry, enjoying a sunset at the ocean, sharing a glass of wine with friends, or simply spending time with family, she lived each day with joy and an open heart. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
