Merlin "Ross" Welcome, " Mr. Welcome"
Merlin Ross Welcome, a beloved father of 5, grandpa of 14, great-grandpa of 4, and a cherished community supporter, sadly passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at the age of 66. Born on April 14, 1960, to Joan Stark-Welcome, Merlin the Musician lived a happy, spirited, and fulfilling life.
His lifelong passion for music began as a child and continued throughout his whole life, making a positive impact as a music teacher, tutor, and well-known local performer playing gigs all across Josephine County. His dedication to helping others went far beyond the stage, especially through his meaningful work with special needs individuals.
His active, enthusiastic, and child-like soul brought people together with Magic the Gathering card and board game nights, participating in SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) events, keeping up his favorite holiday traditions, or helping his community through the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce. He poured his whole heart into his hobbies and music alongside his brother, Chris Welcome. The list of things he did is endless, and our community will truly not be the same without his bright energy and his kindness.
He will be deeply and greatly missed by his large, loving family, and the countless friends and neighbors whose lives he touched
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Sunday, July 12th, at the Bridgeview Winery from noon to 6:00 PM. All who knew and loved him are welcome to come, celebrate, and share in remembering the wonderful life he lived.
Please share a memory of "Ross" in the Guestbook.
