Maxine Mollie Davis was born July 19, 1932 in Salem, Oregon to Audrey and Maxwell O’Brien. During the depression her family moved to a mining claim in Eastern Oregon, and later to Prairie City, Oregon. She attended school there until she graduated from high school.
She then attended Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon. She graduated in 1953. Following graduation, she returned to Prairie City and along with four of her nursing classmates, staffed the small Blue Mountain Hospital.
The following year she met and married Harold Davis, a Federal Highway engineer. Twelve years, twenty-four moves, and two daughters later, they settled in Grants Pass. She was the Surgical Services Manager at Southern Oregon Medical Center from 1965 to 1994. It was a time of growth for the medical community and many changes occurred in those years.
She served as a member of the Board for the Association of Operating Room Nurses, Coalition for Kids and on the Citizen Review Board for Foster Care. She also volunteered at the Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of the Grants Pass Rotary Club, Oregon Eastern Star, Rogue Valley Walkers, and Newman Methodist Church.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Harold in 1989 and Tom Lennon, her companion passed in 2003.
She leaves her 2 daughters and their spouses, Jackie and John Chandler of Grants Pass, Julie and Brian Anderson of Grants Pass. Her Grandchildren, Leslie Farmer, Justin Chandler, Casey Chandler and Breanna Stotsenberg. She was preceded in death by her Grandson, Kristopher Bower. She also leaves nine Great Grandchildren. Kama Henriques, Ashley Bower, Tristan Bower, Emma Espinosa, Jael Chandler, Kristopher Chandler, Micah Chandler, Savannah Stotsenberg and Juniper Stotsenberg.
The family of Tom Lennon also mourns her passing.
Donations may be made to Coalition for Kids, MINT, or Maxine Davis Living Trust (for formation of a nursing tribute).
Services will be held May 24, 2026 at Newman United Methodist Church at 1 pm. Address is 132 NE B Street Grants Pass, OR 97526.
