Mattie Margaret Barton

July 21, 1932 — February 28, 2010

Mattie Margaret Barton, age 77, of Myrtle Creek, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at her home.

Family services will be held. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Margaret was born July 21, 1932 in Cumberland City, Stewart County, Tennessee to Floyd Edward Parker & Lola Lee Foster Parker Clark the youngest of seven children. She met Harvey Schrom Sr while he was stationed in the service and on October 14, 1946 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky they were married. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1960. On November 10, 1963 she married Burton Barton Sr. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1976.

Margaret spent many hours crocheting and knitting numerous items for family and friends including intricate afghans, tablecloths, bedspreads, sweaters, etc. They are now cherished memories of her love for each of them. Many enjoyed her Southern fried chicken, baking powder biscuits, and lemon meringue pie; everyone was always welcome to eat at her table. She was proud of her family and enjoyed all the time spent with them. She especially enjoyed her flower garden and listening to country and western music. Her husband Harvey Sr and his brothers had their own county and western band “The Melody Boys” at the Time Out Bar in Worcester, New York.

Survivors include her eight children, Gloria Jean Munson and husband John of Worcester, New York, Harvey Schrom Jr and wife Lynda of Glendale, Oregon, Golda Mae Duncan of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Johanna Van Den Berg of Maryland, New York, Mary Evelyn Loehr and husband Anthony of Maryland, New York, Bridget Ann DeGruchy of Worcester, New York, Burton Barton Jr of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and Elaine Gaylor and husband James of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; three sisters, Mary Evelyn Christiansen, Louise Waller, and Emma Jean Cunningham all of Tennessee; 33 grandchildren and their spouses; 47 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Tripp, Rosana Schrom and Edna Schrom all of New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first and second husbands and her parents, she was preceded in death by, two daughters, Lola Lee Mould of Westford, New York and Freda Marie Koncelik of Worcester, New York; a granddaughter, Laurie Williams of Kansas; and two great-grandchildren.

Margaret will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
