M. Joan Mildenstein

April 8, 1931 — March 19, 2023

M. Joan Mildenstein, 92, passed away peacefully from this life on Sunday, March 19, 2023, in Provo, Utah. She was born on April 8, 1931, in Madison, Yolo County, California, the third child of Ernest A. Dangerfield and Iva Beulah Schooling. She joined brothers Keith and Ervin, and was followed by her sister Carol.

Her family moved to Josephine County, Oregon, in 1937 at the height of the Great Depression. Growing up in the timber country and river valleys of Southern Oregon, gave her a lifelong appreciation of trees, flowers, and all of God's creations. She met her husband Gilbert after WWII and they were married in 1949. She and Gib were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. They raised their three boys in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Joan will be remembered for being frugal and practical. Having a beautiful soprano voice. Loving Strauss waltzes and listening to them often. Loving gardening, flowers and her dogs and cats. Being an excellent seamstress, and unapologetically loving each member of her family. She especially enjoyed camping with her extended family during hunting season, and was an excellent shot herself. She fiercely defended her roses from uninvited deer! Mostly she will be remembered for being the first in her family to embrace the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The legacy of faith left to her extended family, is immeasurable. We love and honor you Mom, and Grandma!

Joan will be greatly missed, but we rejoice as we think of her reunion with husband Gilbert (Gib), her parents, brothers Keith and Ervin, son Ernest, grandson Nik and great-granddaughter Lucy. She is survived by her sister Carol Siler of Salem, Oregon; sons Keith Mildenstein (Debbie) of Provo, Utah, Boyd Mildenstein (Paula) of Orem, Utah, and Gary Mildenstein (Becki) of New Lexington, Ohio. Her legacy includes 16 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A viewing and memorial service will be held on Thursday April 6, 2023, at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue in Provo, Utah, at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Granite Hill Cemetery in Grants Pass, Oregon, May 10, 2023 at 11:00 am.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cove Point Retirement Community for their kind, attentive care, especially during this past year.
