Lloyd “George” Masters went home to be with the Lord on March 2, 2023. He passed away in his home with his wife and daughters at his side.

George was born to John Lloyd Masters and Kate Elizabeth Masters on November 29, 1939 in Carthage, MO.

In 1951 the family moved to Buena Park, CA and he graduated from Fullerton Union High School in 1957. He attended Fullerton Junior College.

He worked at Knott’s Berry Farm as a youth and as a young man at Beckman Instruments.

In 1962 George married Barbara Ann Bruning and they moved to Southern Oregon in 1969 with their young twin daughters. He worked at Oregon Technical Products from 1969-1972; at Spalding and Son Lumber Mill as the Planerman from 1972-1992 and at Rogue Valley Door from 1995-2009.

George was a member of Merlin Community Baptist Church, United States Auto Racing Club, Classic Chevy International, National Street Rod Association, Rogue Valley Classic Chevy Car Club, West Coast Vintage Racing Association, and Old Time Racers of Oregon.

George joined the California National Guard in 1961. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1964 and promoted to 1st Lieutenant in 1967. He resigned his commission in 1969 when the family moved to Grants Pass.

George had a lifelong interest in auto racing, particularly sprint and midget race cars. He was on the pit crew for the famous Gerhardt Offenhauser powered midget race car in the late 1950’s. He also enjoyed classic Chevy’s. He was a talented fabricator and welder and built several classic vehicles which he enjoyed driving to car shows and around town.

George loved his family more than anything and is survived by his wife Barbara Ann; daughter Beth Haisley and her husband Curt; daughter Becky Amner and her husband Charles; sisters Cathryn Lee Adams and Carol An Walker; grandchildren Thomas Amner, Garrett Amner, Alexandra Haisley, and Kent Haisley; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
