In Loving Memory of Kevin Louis Volek
Kevin Louis Volek, 64, of Grants Pass, Oregon, entered eternal rest with the Lord on October 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born September 21, 1961, in Long Branch, New Jersey, to John Joseph Volek Jr and Patricia Strano, Kevin grew up in Wanamassa, New Jersey. He worked for many years as a mechanic, first in New Jersey and later in Canoga Park, California. In 1988, he moved west with his life soulmate, Pamela Marie, beginning a lifetime of shared adventures. Together they traveled cross-country in their Ram Charger, explored the outdoors, camped, fished, and cared for their beloved cats.
In 1997, Kevin’s sister Gina, her husband David Soden, and their sons Joey and Nick relocated to San Diego California, strengthening the family circle. Kevin later lived in San Diego, California also, before settling in Grants Pass, Oregon. For the past decade, he made his home with his nephew Nick Soden, Nick’s wife Jennifer, and their children Jeremiah and Kaylynn, who brought him great joy.
Kevin was a gentle, humble soul who met each day with quiet resolve. Rain or shine, he followed a steady rhythm—beginning mornings with scripture and his Daily Bread devotional, then heading out to his daily tasks with discipline and purpose. He loved fishing above all, spending countless hours on the ocean or aboard his own boat, the “S.S. Hare Nunn,” a name that reflected his humor and playful spirit. He also cherished hiking, listening to the Grateful Dead and Southern rock, and sharing time with his cats.
His faith in God gave him strength and kindness that he offered freely to others. Steady, patient, and non-confrontational, Kevin brought comfort through his calm spirit and thoughtful heart. He taught those around him by example—gratitude, devotion, and love.
Kevin is survived by Pamela, his life soulmate and love of his life; his brothers Richard and David Volek of New Jersey; his sister Gina Johnston of California; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
The family will share service details at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites others to honor Kevin’s memory through a quiet act of kindness, a day spent outdoors, or a donation to a local animal rescue.
Kevin will be remembered for his faith in God, his love for nature and animals, his devotion to family, and the closeness he shared with loved ones. His faith is our comfort, his love our foundation, and his light will forever guide our way.
Please share a memory of Kevin in his Guestbook.
