Judith Ann "Judy" Wolff

May 28, 1946 — January 17, 2026

Judith (Judy) Ann Bernhardt Wolff passed away at her home in Rogue River, Oregon, on January 17, 2026, after a lengthy illness. Judy was born in Astoria, Oregon, on May 28, 1946, to Louis Harold and Virginia Marie Bernhardt. Judy was the youngest of three sisters. The family spent time in Warrenton and Florence, Oregon, before moving to Eureka, California in 1960.

Judy graduated from Eureka High School in 1964 where she made many friendships that lasted a lifetime. After high school, Judy moved to San Francisco where she attended a key punch school and worked in banking.

Judy returned to Eureka and continued working in the banking industry at Humboldt National Bank, and later at Security Pacific Bank. Judy joined Fiscal Affairs in the Accounting Department at Humboldt State University (now Cal Poly Humboldt) in 1979. She was a valued member of the department; well-liked and known by many on campus.

Judy married Riley Jack Wolff on August 10, 1968. They divorced in 1997 and continued to remain friends.

Judy was athletic and enjoyed playing many sports including softball, bowling, golf, and fishing. She loved being outdoors and working in her yard. She loved to cook. Judy was an avid fan of the San Francisco Giants and Forty-Niners. She loved joining friends at the Giants spring training in Arizona as well as attending regular season games whenever possible. Judy loved watching her two teams play and rarely missed a game. For many years she collected baseball cards with her special interest in “U”s, “Q”s, and father and son cards.

Judy retired from her accounting position at HSU in 2006 to care for her mother after her mother’s stroke. Judy was dedicated to her mother’s care and became her advocate. In fact, she became an advocate for others in the care center as well. She soon realized that many residents either had no family or visitors. For many years at Christmas Judy took the initiative to find out what residents needed and used her huge family of friends to collect gifts to make sure these residents received a special Christmas gift.

That was one of her super powers, to be here for anyone who needed help. She was a friend to almost everyone she met and if you were a friend of hers, she was a loyal friend. She will be missed.

Judy is survived by her sister Alice Bernhardt Griffin; nephews Steve (Elizabeth) Lewis, Jim Wiens, and Michael Lewis; nieces Kathy Wiens, Lisa Lewis and Kim (Anthony) Hammer and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Virginia Bernhardt and her sister Patricia Bernhardt Lewis.

A celebration of life will be held in Humboldt County California at the end of March/early April. A second celebration will be held in Florence, Oregon, the last weekend of May. Contact Lisa Lewis at lisalewis67@yahoo.com for further details.

If you would like to honor Judy’s memory, gifts would be welcome to the charity or cause of your choice.
