John B. Raviolo passed away in Grants Pass, Oregon on March 23, 2026. Born on March 6, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, John was the son of Victor G. Raviolo and Janet Holcombe, and stepmother Eleanor Schettler Raviolo. He was preceeded in death by his parents, stepmother, and brother, Victor G. Raviolo Jr.
John graduated from Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1956. He earned his BS degree from Michigan State University in 1961. His careers were as diverse as his interests; sales, foreign car mechanic, and social work. In the 1970's John was a juvenile court counselor, then superintendent of Lane County Juvenile Detention Center (Skipworth) in Eugene, Oregon. In 1978, he moved to Washington state where he built two commercial fishing boat hulls while owning Sound Built Boats. He returned to Oregon in 1980, attended Willamette University, and received his J.D. degree in 1983. John was a Josephine County Deputy District Attorney in Grants Pass from 1983 until 1988, when he opened his private law practice.
He was a member of the Southern Oregon Mr. Longears Club and the Sons of the American Revolution.
John and his wife, Alice Ward Raviolo, had been married for 54 years. Their blended family who survives him: Monique Potvin and her family, including Peppi Nominikat and grandson Bode; and John E. Raviolo, his wife Elizabeth, and grandchildren Weston and Wren; Dino R. Raviolo and grandchildren Jiovanni and Sophia; Ghits Denon; and Gian P. Raviolo. John is survived by his sister Judith A. Hoyt, niece Victoria Ericsson Ponte, nephew David Ericsson, and his twin sister Caren Seaman and a loved cat, Ms. Kitty.
John loved the outdoors; camping, fishing for salmon, crabbing, and hunting. Retirement meant working on his cars and boats and caring for his horses, mules, and a BLM burro. He enjoyed the weekly live music at Wild River and Taylor's in Cave Junction.
John's kindness and generosity touched many lives, leaving an indelible mark on his community and family. At his request, no public services will be held. In honor of his life, donations may be made to the Illinois Valley Safe House Alliance, PO Box 2490 Cave Junction, OR 97523, or the Women's Crisis Support Team at 560 NE F St Grants Pass, OR 97526.
