John J. Lesisz

John J. Lesisz, 85, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 at Three Rivers Medical Center. John was born on July 27, 1933 in Kulpmont, PA, to John and Isabelle Lesisz. John was the youngest of four children and graduated from GAR Memorial High School in Wilke Barre, PA.

In 1954, the Lesisz family moved to Southern California where John was employed as a machinist with Douglas Aircraft. In 1955, he met the love of his life, Edith Anne Flinner on a blind date. They married on June 30, 1956 and have been married for 62 years. In 1956, John was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with distinction. Upon his discharge he returned to work at Douglas Aircraft and lived in Manhattan Beach, CA. After the death of their eldest daughter in 1972, John and his family decided to move to Grants Pass, OR where he worked as a machinist for Fourply Inc. until his health forced him to retire in 1995.

Volunteering was part of John’s life as well. He was a Boy Scouts of America Leader, Cub Master, 4-H Leader and 4-H Superintendent for many years. His hobbies included; skiing, hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. An avid square dancer, he and his family were members of the Charlie Brown Squares from 1974 until 1980. John also found joy in gold mining and sheep shearing. In retirement, he played golf and got his first hole-in-one at age 80.

Those passing before him; daughter, Catherine Anne; parents, John and Isabelle, brothers Edward Orford of Beaufort, S.C., Stanley Lesisz of San Bernardino, CA and sister, Jeannette Worthington of San Bernardino, CA.

John is survived by his wife, Edith Anne; daughter, Deanna (Doug) Pflieger; son, Charles (Lila) Lesisz; grandchildren, Claire Pflieger; Michael (Sadie) Menzel; Brentten Menzel; Tristian Menzel and greatgrandchild, Clover Menzel.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hull and Hull Funeral Directors, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 2 pm. John’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
