Gerald Harrell

Gerald (Jerry) E. Harrell passed away on May 4, 2022 in Grants Pass, Oregon at the age of 83. He was born in Marden, Louisiana on June 8, 1938 to Leo and Edith Mecom-Harrell. He moved to California where he worked for Louisiana Pacific for 15 years. Here is where he met the love of his life, Naomi, whom he married on June 30, 1972. In 1978, Jerry and his family moved to Hermiston, Oregon where he worked for Union Pacific Railroad, receiving the nickname “never sweat”. After 22 years, Jerry retired and moved with his wife to Yellville, Arkansas. Here they remained for 18 years before returning home to Oregon in 2018 and settling in Grant Pass near family.

Jerry was devoted to the Lord, his family, and his friends. He loved to laugh and tease those he came in contact with. Jerry enjoyed singing and was often asked to lead worship service at the Faith Church of God in Hermiston, Oregon. He loved to hunt, fish and spend time in the outdoors.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Edith Harrell; his brother, H.L. Lowry; his daughter, Sherrill Harrell-Stubbs; and his son-in-law, Tony Stubbs. He Is survived by his wife, Naomi Shires-Harrell, of 49 years; his children, Gerald Harrell (Seattle, Washington); Keith Harrell and wife Penni (Loveland, Colorado); Debbie Scott (Stanfield, Oregon); Joe Stephens and wife Wanda (Grants Pass, Oregon); Joy Gutierrez-Hotchkiss and husband Martin (Stanfield, Oregon); Pauline Sherbahn and husband Daniel (Echo, Oregon); along with multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 4, 2022 at 4:00 pm at the Church of God in Grants Pass, Oregon.
