Ernest Loyd Brodie (Nov. 26, 1928 – Nov. 23, 2025)
Ernest “Ernie” Brodie left this world on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at his home in Cave Junction, Oregon, at 96 years old, surrounded by loved ones.
He will always be remembered with love by his children, Debra Lynn Brodie (wife of David Osfeld) of Sacramento, California, and Ernest Loyd Brodie Jr (husband of Linda Cook) of Long Beach, California; his grandchildren Michael Joseph Osfeld and Matthew Loyd Brodie; and his partner of 35 years, Shelagh Shafer. He became the loving adopted dad to Richard Kale, Robert and Rose Kale, and Jennifer Shafer; and loved being the adopted grandfather to John Michael Kale and Sarah Evie Kale. Ernie and Shelagh shared a loving, adventurous life together in Oregon, alongside many friends and family.
Ernie was previously married to Ida Bell Reynolds, the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Sarah Jane Brodie, and siblings, Norman Charles Brodie Jr., Marvin Dwight Brodie, and Barbara Maxine Brodie (Sikes).
Ernie was born in Visalia, California in 1928 to Norman Charles Brodie and Laura Naomi Williams. He spent his grade school years in El Centro, California, and the family later settled in Porterville, California. After serving in the Navy during the Korean War, he attended Idaho State University where he studied architecture. His many adventures in life took him from Long Beach, California to Miami, Florida flying cargo to the Camen Islands, to the jungles of Campeche, Mexico with good friends, to then developing wineries which settled him in Cave Junction, Oregon.
It's impossible to name all of the friendships that he made and the lives that he touched, but he will always be remembered with a smile and a zest for life.
A very special thank you to the ladies that supported us through his final days. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a donation to Rogue Valley Bristol Hospice.
A celebration of life will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., November 30, 2025 at Augustino’s Winery at the Cowboy Cabin, O’Brien, Oregon.
