Edgar W. Thompson, age 87, of Grants Pass, died October 28, 2018 in Springfield.

Edgar was born August 11, 1931 in Covington, Kentucky to Edgar & Marjorie Thompson. As his parents were crop pickers, the family frequently moved. He joined the United States Air Force and served as a jet mechanic. On October 16, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada he married Vida Joy Van Vleet and in 1964 they moved from Azusa, California to Grants Pass. Edgar worked as a microwave technician for KOBI Channel 5 and Redtronics in Medford, retiring at the age of 47. For 25 years, he and Vida were snowbirds dividing their time between Grants Pass and Yuma, Arizona.

Edgar was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Merlin.

Survivors include his wife, Vida Joy Thompson of Grants Pass; six children, Lois, Linda, Wayne, twins Brian and Bruce, and David; three siblings, Marilyn, Ronald, and Richard; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Briana and a grandson, David “Davy.”

A committal service with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 5, 2018 at Eagle Point National Cemetery with Pastor Ken Williams officiating.
