Dorothy Ann Flynn-Poplet

1913 - 2007

Dorothy Flynn Poplet, after a long illness, passed away at home in the arms of both her loving daughter, Barbara Gutierrez-Murray and son-in-law, Donald Murray while being told just how much she was loved and adored.

Dorothy was born on July 6, 1913 in Garrowduff, County Sligo, Ireland to her parents, Thomas Flynn and Agnes Hallinan-Flynn . She came to America with her family including her sisters Mamie, Celia and Eilleen in 1924 through Ellis Island, New York. Her brother Johnny came at a later date.

She moved with her daughter Barbara to So. California just outside of Los Angeles in 1968 and eventually settled in the city of Canoga Park with Barbara for 25 years. They then re-located to So. Oregon with her son-in-law Don.

While living in Canoga Park, Dorothy worked as a professional 'French Service' banquet waitress in the finest hotels in Beverly Hills, Ca. for parties such as The President''s Ball, The Governor''s Ball, The Academy Awards, The Golden Globe Awards, The Emmy Awards, and The Grammy Awards where she served on many of the head tables. Even after her retirement she was always asked, 'please come back to work, we need you!'

She taught her daughter Barbara and her son Harry the business and they would all work together. Her daughter then became a flight attendant in the late 1980''s and her son later became a steward for Amtrak. Over the years Barbara would often take her on trips with her where Dorothy truly enjoyed helping out.

Dorothy was survived by her 4 children, Dorothy Bianco, Harry Poplet, Keith Poplet and Barbara Murray, her niece Colleen Emery and daughter-in-law Elly Hunt. She was also survived by 5 other nieces/nephews, 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 8 great nieces/nephews, and 8 great, great nieces/nephews. Also, as she called them, her 2 'adopted' sons, Donnie Plehn and Marc Franklin.

She was famous in her family for always walking you to your car when you left after a visit to her home, waving goodbye and saying 'Don''t forget I love you' until she could no longer see your car.

She was the matriarch and the last of the Flynn family. She will be greatly missed but never, ever forgotten!

Final arrangements were made by Illinois Valley Chapel through Hull and Hull Funeral Directors.
