Donald J. Schultz, age 99, of Grants Pass, died August 24, 2020 at Ashley Manor.
Don was born August 16, 1921 in Hammond, Minnesota to John & Lena Schultz. Don grew up in Hammond and graduated from Pine Island High School where he participated in sports. On August 28, 1940 he married Ferne Alberts and together they lived and worked on their farm before moving to Springfield, Oregon in 1946 when he purchased his first log truck. In 1955 he moved to Grants Pass and continued hauling logs until 1977. Later he hauled dry cement for Davison Ready Mix and fuel for Colvin Oil.
After retirement, Don volunteered for Josephine County Senior Programs.
He was a life-long member of the Assemblies of God Fellowship and locally Parkway Christian Center where he served in various capacities over the years including an usher, greeter, the board of deacons, and a choir member. Most recently he was active in a men’s Bible study group and attended Traditions where he enjoyed fellowship with others.
Don enjoyed deer and elk hunting and fishing, but his pride and joy was his yard. Most important to him was his family.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Ferne; daughter Rowene Watson; and granddaughter Brenda Holt.
He is survived by daughters Diane (Fred) Hull and Judy (Rick) Samuelson; son-in-law Burt Watson; grandchildren Kirk Hull, Mark Watson, Rick Samuelson, Kendra Johnson, Cristen Harrington and Greg Contreras; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A cryptside service will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, August 30, 2020 at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass.
