DeVaughn L Speicher, lovingly known as “Spike” was born on July 26th, 1932, in Pennsylvania. He passed away leaving behind a legacy rooted in hard work, creativity, and a deep connection to the community he proudly called home.
A proud United States Marine and veteran of the Korean War, Spike served his country with honor and courage—an early chapter in a life defined by resilience, discipline, and quiet strength.
In 1968, Spike moved his family to Grants Pass, Oregon from New York state, following a promotion with Champion Products. As Assistant Manager, he played a key role in helping establish Champion’s West Coast Division Products operations. When the company later chose to relocate the plant, Spike made a defining decision. Rather than leave the area he had come to love, he stayed and built something of his own.
With determination and vision, Spike founded S&E Video transfer. A business that became part of the fabric of the community for more than 40 years, he brought memories back to life by transferring families’ home movies and pairing them with music, transforming silent reels into vivid, emotional stories. Through his work he didn’t just preservemoments--he gave them voice, rythm, and renewed life for thousands of families to cherish for generations.
Spike will be remembered for his independent spirit, his dedication to his craft, and the care he put into every life he touched. He didn’t just record memories -- he revived them.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eva Mae Speicher.
He is survived by his children, Gary Speicher, Earl Speicher and Rebecca “Becky” Van Iersel; his grandchildren, Travis Walker, Cassandra Quigley, and Dena Haswell; and his great grandchildren, Ivory Walker, Kyler Quigley, and Annabelle Quigley.
A memorial service will be held on on March 7th, 2:00 at Life Link Church
Though Spike may be gone, his story continues in every memory he preserved and in every life he helped shape. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Please share a memory of Spike in his Guestbook.
