Charles Delmer (Delmer) Brink was born on July 16, 1939 in Heinz, California (now Paramount), to parents Charlie Brink and Bertha (Berghorst) Brink. He married Betty Jean (Jeanie) VanFoeken in 1960. They had three children, Cynthia Brink, Tamra Jean Mabbott (husband David, grandchildren Hannah and Thomas) and Timothy Charles (wife Caitlin and daughter Aela). Delmer later had another daughter with Melinda Martin, Jennifer Martin (grandsons Edward and Samuel). Delmer and Jeanie divorced in 1973. Delmer took a year off in Highschool to help support his family, therefore he attended night school to earn his night school diploma. He earned varsity letter in track and won awards for mechanical competitions.
In the early years, Delmer clipped cows and was a relief milker. In 1966, he purchased Bloomfield Dairy Cash and Carry store in Bellflower, California. The State of California purchased the land for a Department of Motor Vehicles facility in 1969, at which point the family moved to Oregon and purchased 75 acres in Josephine County. The family built a milk parlor and started Rogue View Dairy, where Delmer remained until his passing.
Delmer was known as an excellent herdsman. He purchased the first herd of cows in Oregon from a couple in Tillamook, who treated each cow as one of their children. Later he purchased a herd of Brown Swiss from the Evers in Forest Grove. He continued to grow his herd and eventually expanded to 200 milk cows. He was proud of his AI work and often referred to the new calves as his own offspring.
Delmer’s hobbies were racing pigeons, classic cars and trucks.
He is survived by his children, his brother Danny Stone, nieces and nephews and many neighbors and friends. Delmer had many special friends from the dairy business and community.
