Carl Travis "Terry" Bignon Jr., age 73, of Grants Pass, died June 16, 2025 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.
Carl Travis Bignon, Jr., affectionately known as “Terry,” was born on March 26, 1952, to Gloria Anne Mitchell and Carl Travis Bignon. His parents met while working for the United States Postal Service and later married, building a family rooted in love and service.
At the young age of 17, with the consent of both parents, Terry enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era. He was driven by a deep sense of duty to serve his country and a desire to escape the escalating heroin epidemic that plagued New York City at the time. Many of his peers were lost to addiction, but Terry chose a different path—one of discipline, service, and purpose.
During his time in the Navy, Terry served with distinction as a Signalman aboard the USS Intrepid, the famed aircraft carrier and battleship that now stands as a monument and museum in New York Harbor. Those who visit the Intrepid are encouraged to pause and remember Terry’s service and sacrifice.
As he traveled the world, Terry developed a deep passion for photography and storytelling. He wrote about his experiences and captured powerful images of the people and places he encountered, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of creative expression. After receiving an honorable discharge, Terry embarked on a successful civilian career, working with several prestigious law firms in New York City and Washington, D.C. He excelled in legal records management, eventually rising to the position of Legal Records Supervisor.
A committal service with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m., June 25, 2025 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
