Betty Lou Hook, formerly of Garden Grove, California, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, at the age of 92.

Betty was born in Parkston, South Dakota, on November 11, 1930, to Otto and Josephine Foerster.  She attended Parkston High School and after graduating in 1947, moved on to Northwestern Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

Betty taught high school business courses, including typing, shorthand, bookkeeping and office practices.  She taught in Aberdeen, in Minnesota, and in Madera and Long Beach, California. 

While teaching in Madera, Betty met Hoyt Dean Hook, a USAF pilot stationed at nearby Castle Air Force Base.  They were married on June 21, 1958, and in 1963 moved to Garden Grove, California.  After 30 years in Garden Grove, the pair retired to Grants Pass, OR in September 1993.  Hoyt and Betty enjoyed a long, happy retirement near family and friends.  Betty loved entertaining, traveling, cooking, quilting, sewing, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, walking, and most especially spending time with family.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Hoyt; 3 children, Anne Hook, David Hook, Jeanne Bihm and husband Rick; Sister-in-Law Maggie Tripp; grandchildren Jeff Bihm, Jenni Cole and Corey Bihm; 7 great-grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; son Robert; Brother Willard Foerster; Sisters-in-Law Eva Foerster, Patricia Berry and Annalise Hook; Brothers-in-Law Robert Tripp and Robert Hook.

There will be a Mass at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 1:00pm on Monday, June 19th with reception to follow.  Ashes will be interred at Eagle Point National Cemetery in a separate ceremony.
