Alma Elizabeth Cuthbert

Alma Elizabeth Cuthbert, age 104, of Grants Pass, died February 03, 2023 at her home.


Alma was born April 1, 1918 in Herkimer, Kansas to Charles & Ruth Thompson. On September 21, 1941 in San Francisco, she married Duane Paul Cuthbert. They met on a blind date arranged by Duane’s sister Betty and the couple shared their 58th anniversary before Duane’s passed in 2000.


Alma was a survivor. She was born following the great influenza epidemic of 1918 and endured many wars including World War II; overcame many hardships including the Great Depression, Dust Bowl, tornadoes, and California earthquakes. She has seen many wonderous advancements in medical technology, science, outer space, and inventions. She moved between Kansas, Idaho, California and finally reached Oregon where she spent her remaining 27 years in Grants Pass.


From 1971 to 1997 Alma was a member of the San Clemente Arts & Crafts Club. From 1997 to 2020 she was a member of the Grants Pass Crafts Club.


She volunteered her time making crocheted afghans and blankets for veterans and stocking caps for children in cancer wards.


She especially enjoyed crafting and crocheting.


Survivors include children Kathe L. Mash, Patricia Bolton, Dwight Cuthbert, and Janette K. Borland; ten grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and 39 great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson Mark Mash; her parents; and two sisters.


A viewing will be at 10:00 a.m., February 13, 2023 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.


A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., February 13, 2023 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Pastor Wes Winn officiating.


In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Rogue Valley Humane Society.
