Allen Pine Doehrer

March 20, 1942 — April 29, 2024

Allen Pine Doehrer, age 82, of Grants Pass, died April 29, 2024 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

 

Allen was born March 20, 1942 in Washington D.C. to Benjamin & Emilie Doehrer.  He graduated from Blair High School in Silver Springs, Maryland in 1960.  In 1962 he married Dorothy “Dottie” Volentine in Hyattsville, Maryland.  Al started working at Bob’s Big Boy at the age of 18 and he came to love the restaurant business.  In 1969 he moved to Aurora, Colorado where he managed Ken’s Big Boy.   In 1971 he moved to Grand Lake, Colorado and opened his own restaurant, Chuck Hole Café.  Together with his wife Dottie, they worked hard running this successful restaurant for 17 years.  They semi-retired in 1985 and moved to Sedona, Arizona and two years later moved to Phoenix, Arizona.  In 2010 the moved from Phoenix to Grants Pass.

 

Allen served on the Grand Lake, Colorado Town Council.  He volunteered much of his time while living in Grand Lake.

 

Allen was passionate about biking.  Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday he biked with a local group in Grants Pass.  He did bike tours in Vermont, Oregon, New Zealand, Wisconsin, Colorado and Arizona.

 

He is survived by his wife, Dottie of Grants Pass; children Tamara “Tammy” DeGiovanni (Todd) of Garnerville, Nevada, Troy Doehrer (Kristi) of Bozeman, Montana and Tara Lew (Steve) of Stockton, California; sister Pat Rodeffer; grandchildren Tanner, Trent, Maddison, McKenna, Levi and Layla; and greatgrandchildren Sage and Walker.

 

Those wishing may make remembrances in Allen’s name to River Valley Church, Pregnancy Care Center, Gospel Rescue Mission all in Grants Pass or a charity of choice.

 

The last thing he said was “I love you” to his wife Dottie.
