Zelda Lee (Evans) Herman

January 18, 1926 — December 27, 2017

Zelda Lee (Evans) Herman, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Autumn House Memory Care.

Zelda was born to Ernest and Edna (Root) Evans on January 18, 1926 in Mosier, Oregon. As the youngest of five daughters, she attended school in Mosier and was the Valedictorian at age 16. After attending business school in Portland, she worked in a Hood River office. On October 19, 1946 she married Joseph Charles Herman in The Dalles, Oregon. Calling Mosier home, Joseph, Zelda and their four children traveled from town to town in a travel trailer while Joseph worked for Pacific Power. Their journeys included Montana, Wyoming and Oregon before they settled in Grants Pass in 1976, where they retierd in1985.

Zelda enjoyed her membership in the Oregon State Extension Service at the Josephine County Fairgrounds; American Legion Auxiliary; and the Forty & Eight.

Zelda was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting, quilting, sewing, cooking, baking and hosting holiday meals. In the couple’s retirement years they enjoyed traveling. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; especially watching them play sports.

Survivors include her three daughters, Toni Anderson of Grants Pass; Sherri Durfee of Stayton, Oregon; Jodi Hood of Grants Pass; son, Russell Herman of Pendleton, Oregon; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Zelda is preceded in death by her husband and her four sisters; Nedra, V’Ona, Audrey, and Dolorous.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Mosier Cemetery, Mosier, Oregon. A reception will be held at the Mosier Grange Hall, 900 4th Street, Mosier OR 97040.
