William J. (Bill) Monahan
September 3, 1932 – April 25, 2018
Bill Monahan, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.
He was born William Joseph Bois September 3, 1932 to Lawrence and Florence (Paquin) Bois in Fisherville, Massachusetts. His parents later divorced; his mother married Francis George Monahan, who adopted Bill and his sister, Betty.
When Bill was nine years old, the family moved to La Mesa California where he grew up and graduated from Grossmont High School. At 18, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 22 years on active duty, with many and varied assignments throughout the U.S. and around the world. He served from 1969 – 1970 in Viet Nam, and was an ROTC Instructor at Shattuck/St.Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota from 1972-1974. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant.
Bill enjoyed gardening, fishing, and the outdoors. He loved state-of-the-art technology of all kinds and was the “go-to” guy when family or one of his many friends ran into problems with their computers!
But more than anything, Dad loved the Lord, and he loved his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially meant the world to him, and on seeing them, his smile would light up the room.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Irene Montero, infant sister, Shirley Bois, beloved nephews, David Byrd and Michael Byrd, and beloved niece, Cathy Brooks.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mona Fallon-Monahan. They celebrated their 19th anniversary just three days before his passing. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Byrd (Tom Stark), Carol (Dean) Brooks, and Pat (Bob) Bourgeois; brother, Richard (Pat) Monahan; five children, Bob Monahan, Kim (Rick) Carlson, Carrie (Barry) Brown, Sharon Ensley, and Teresa Monahan; five step-children, Mike Fallon, Terri DeBolt, Dan Fallon, Brian Fallon, and Chris Fallon; grandchildren, Matthew Monahan, Lindsay Monahan, Benjamin Brown, Jason Ensley, Amiee Ensley, Kolby Mestaz, Sierra Mestaz, and Madison Edwards; great-grandchildren, Tiahana Moore, Jaxson Ensley, Ella Ensley-Smiley, Thomas Brown, and Lukah Ensley; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Bill will be laid to rest with full military honors Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11a.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery 2763 Riley Road, Eagle Point, OR 97524.
