Warren Glenn Rothkamm

Warren Glenn Rothkamm, age 84, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his home.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2008 at Eagle Point National Cemetery with Chaplain Randel Livingood conducting. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Association, 120 Wall Street 19th floor, New York, New York 10005 in memory of his son-in-law or to North Valley High School Athletic Fund, 6741 Monument Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526 in honor of his grandchildren.

Warren Rothkamm was born to John E. & Mollie A. Rothkamm on July 28, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas and shortly thereafter his family moved to his parent’s hometown of Lake Charles, Louisiana. On November 14, 1945 in Lafayette, Louisiana he married Shirley Philson McCullough. Warren attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he studied engineering. During World War II he served as an aircraft armorer and participated in the Okinawa Operation. He was honorably discharged as a corporal. From Louisiana he and his family moved to California where they lived from 1960 to 1966. In 1966 Warren moved his family to Grants Pass where he built their home. In Grants Pass he owned S & W Plumbing, served as the state and county plumbing inspector in the 1980s, and also taught the apprentice plumbing program at Rogue Community College.

Warren especially enjoyed square dancing and was a past member and President of the Gypsy Squares square dancers. He donated his time and materials to local community and school projects.

He loved fishing and crabbing. As a young boy he fished the waters of Louisiana and continued to fish all throughout his life on the Oregon and California coasts. He loved woodworking including handcrafting furniture, birdhouses, and children’s rocking chairs which he “sold” at the Growers & Crafters market. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Shirley Philson Rothkamm of Grants Pass; he is survived by three daughters, Peggy Hassan and Gail Hundley both of Portland; and Rebecca Tappan of Grants Pass; a brother, Larry D. Rothkamm of Grants Pass; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Peggy E. Rothkamm.
