Wanda Ruth Sherman

August 10, 1951 — December 20, 2014

This season we find ourselves celebrating the life, and mourning the passing of beloved mother, wife and educator Wanda Ruth Sherman.

Wanda was born in Missouri on August 10th, 1951 and after attending college there found herself in Chicago, Denver and eventually here to the lovely City of Grants Pass. In Oregon, Wanda dedicated herself to the cause of education receiving her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Education from Southern Oregon University as well as her Masters in Adult Education from Oregon State University. Her tireless efforts have changed the lives of countless students through her work as a math teacher and head instructor of the Rogue Community College adult education program. Wanda was also responsible for creating the Life Skills program that has helped to give students the skills needed to navigate this often complicated world.

Wanda’s spiritual tapestry was woven strong due to her lifelong quest for knowledge and spiritual growth. In this difficult time we ask you, like Wanda herself, to reflect on love, compassion and community. Three things that helped define a wonderful woman and that we could all use more of in our lives.

Wanda’s creativity was fueled by her many artistic hobbies; including stained glass, quilting, sewing and the appreciations of art at local galleries. Also an avid reader, Wanda could often be found voraciously reading any and all books within reach.

Wanda is survived directly by her dutiful and loving husband, Jeffrey Allen Sherman as well as her caring and driven daughter Madelaine. Both of whom continue Wanda’s legacy of love and insight.

A celebration of life is to be held later in the month of January. Wanda’s family asks for your love and support during this difficult time and also for you to honor Wanda’s memory with your own contribution to making our community, both locally and globally, a better and more loving place.
