Vincent Paul Bluhm

Vincent Paul Bluhm, age 93, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at his home with his family close by.

A viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Bethany Presbyterian Church.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Bethany Presbyterian Church with Pastor Steve Parker officiating. A military service and interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center Auxiliary.

Vincent was born September 21, 1920 in Seward, Nebraska to Agnes & Frederick Bluhm. He attended school in Havlock, Nebraska graduating from Havlock High School in 1938, where he was recognized as an outstanding football player. Vince was apprenticed by a Swiss watchmaker and became a watchmaker in jewelry stores in Lincoln and Havlock. In December 1940 he joined the Nebraska National Guard. On October 24, 1942 he married Margaret “Marge” Sherwood and they were married for 62 years until Marge died in 2004. Vince saw action in World War II in Europe and participated in five major battles. He was discharged in December 1945 as Warrant Officer. He worked for Elgin Watch Company in Lincoln, Nebraska for 11 years before moving to Arcadia, California in 1957. There he was employed by Consolidated Electrodynamics Corp (later Bell & Howell) for 14 years in their Research and Development of electronic instruments. In 1971 his family moved to Oregon where Vince joined his son Larry in developing a Christmas tree farm in the Applegate valley. In 1973 Vince returned to Palos Verdes, California and was employed by Northrup Corporation in Research Technology for ten years. In 1983 he retired and moved to Williams, Oregon and later to Grants Pass.

Vince enjoyed time with his family and volunteering with the Asante Three Rivers Medical Center Auxiliary. Vince and his family attended Bethany Presbyterian Church. He loved to travel, enjoyed Barnstormer plays, community concerns, and the Rogue Valley Symphony.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Bluhm and Gary Bluhm both of Grants Pass, Oregon; a daughter, Sherry Ramirez and husband David of San Juan Capistrano, California; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry.
