Vera Mae Richmond

August 14, 1931 — October 14, 2019

Vera Mae Duke Richmond, born August 14, 1931, to James Sidney Duke and Mary Magdalene Kennedy Duke, in Watonga, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ and loved ones that passed before her on October 14, 2019.

The second born, Vera had 4 siblings: Grace Imogene, Wayne, Jimmy, and Raymond.

Vera married Charles Richmond, April 14, 1952. They had 6 children: Pam, Debbie, Carla, Randy, Mike, Kevin. She lived in Oklahoma until 1953, when she and Charles moved to California, raising six children on Southern cooking and Sunday School. Vera lived in Santa Cruz, California from the late 70’s, where her kids (except Mike) had moved. She moved from California to Grants Pass, Oregon, closer to sister Jeanne and son Kevin, in 1996 after husband Charles passed away.

She loved to read, with quite a "library" of her own; sharing many books with others. She also loved to crochet & made afghans & baby blankets for all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She worked for See's Candies for many years. She was involved in church women's ministries, crafts, bake sales and with her grandkids; a Sunday school teacher, Bible studies, cooking for potlucks and in her later years the Seniors group at her church, Parkway Christian Center with her many friends there.

She was quite a traveler after her children were grown, visiting family, annual trips and family reunions with her siblings, visiting places she never thought she'd see, many states, Canada, and several cruises.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, sister "Jeanne", brother Wayne, and namesake great grand-daughter Eisley Mae.

She is survived by her children: Pam, Debbie, Carla, Randy, Mike, Kevin, 15 grandchildren & 19 great-grandchildren, brothers Jimmy & Raymond, their wives Millie and Mary, respectively, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We mourn the loss of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, with gratitude for her life and our part in it. We are comforted in the fact that she is where she often said she wanted to be ~ Heaven.

A celebration of life will be at Parkway Christian Center, Grants Pass, Oregon, January 16, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.
