Stephen G. "Steve" Funk

March 30, 1951 — October 16, 2014

Steve Funk, age 63, passed peacefully on October 16, 2014, at his home after a hard fought battle against cancer.

Steve was born in Hudson, New York, on April 30, 1951, and moved with his family to Hollywood, Florida, at age two. He is the son of Simeon and Barbara Thomas Funk, both deceased.

Steve and Janette Laubhan were married on September 25, 1982, at Lake Tahoe. They moved from San Mateo, California to Oregon in 1986, and have lived in Grants Pass since 1987. Steve and Janette shared 32 years of mutual devotion.

Steve is survived by his wife Janette Lauhban; sister Arlene and husband Joe Baker of Hudson, New York; brother, Ronald Funk of Almond, North Carolina; niece Sandy Funk of Hollywood, Florida; and nephews Ronnie Funk of Hollywood, Florida and James Funk of Plantation, Florida, and their families. Steve is the proud great uncle of Dana, Brianna, and Byron Funk.

Steve was employed by Parkway Enterprises, Inc., of Grants Pass for more than 25 years. At the time of his retirement in 2011, he was operations manager for Parkway’s three automobile recycling businesses. He enjoyed driving and building fast cars, and loved his 1937 blown alcohol Chevy. He was a skilled fisherman and enjoyed reading, bird watching, and wildlife. Steve had fun with friends and family, and will be missed by all.

He was a member of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) for 15 years, and earned his competition driver’s license. He was also a member of the Elks Club.

A memorial celebration of Steve’s life will be held be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
