Stephen Ellis Chatham

October 24, 1948 — February 20, 2008

Stephen Ellis “Steve” Chatham, age 59, of Selma, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at his home.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A memorial service will be at 12:00 noon, Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel.

He was born October 24, 1948 in Galveston, Texas to Tony & Mildred Chatham. He was raised in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth in 1966. From 1966 to 1968 he attended the University of Houston. In 1969 he moved to Canoga Park, California and then attended Pierce College in Canoga Park from 1970 to 1973. In 1976 he moved to Grants Pass. On November 5, 1977 in Cave Junction he married the former Janet Elsa Hoffman, who survives. After his marriage he and his wife moved to Selma. He worked in the lumber industry for many years.

He performed with the Texas Boys Choir and sang for President Kennedy.

He enjoyed fly tying, fishing, being outdoors, and the Oregon Coast. He was a talented artist, painting with watercolors and oils. He also enjoyed reading, photography, music and playing the guitar and geology. He also loved animals, gardening and woodworking.

In addition to his wife Janet Chatham of Selma; survivors include his daughter, Summer Chatham of Selma; his mother, Mildred Chatham of Pueblo, Colorado; two sisters, Diane Walthall of Rye, Colorado; and Toni Frazier of Woodstock, Georgia; three nephews; one niece; two grand nephews and two grand nieces.
