Stanley J. Pelphrey

Stanley J. Pelphrey, age 88, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at his home.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 29, 2014 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Merlin Building. A committal service with military honors will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Services or the Perpetual Education Fund.

Stanley was born July 8, 1926 in Los Angeles, California to Arthur & Ethel (Phillips) Pelphrey. He left high school early during World War II to join the United States Navy. He served at the Nevada Ammunition Depot. On May 10, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nevada he married Iva M. Dahle and they started their family in Los Angeles. In 1951 Stanley built a home in Pico Rivera, California. He worked as a diesel mechanic and later worked in the Long Beach harbor as a foreman diesel mechanic working on the cranes at the Port of Long Beach retiring in 1984. He then moved from Fullerton, California to Grants Pass.

Stanley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Merlin Ward; Young Farmers; and the Civil Air Patrol in Josephine County.

Stanley love to garden and enjoyed building, water skiing, boating, and flying small aircraft. He and his wife designed and built their own homes in California and Oregon.

Survivors include his wife, Iva M. Pelphrey of Grants Pass, Oregon; a daughter, Karen P. Blume of Eastvale, California; two sons, Richard L. Pelphrey and Michael J. Pelphrey both of Corona, Calfiornia; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
