Sophie Pauline "Cookie" Woolard

Sophie Pauline “Cookie” Woolard, age 99, of Rogue River, died Monday, November 25, 2013 at her daughter’s home just short of her 100th Birthday.

Known as Cookie, she was born December 14, 1913 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Joseph & Pauline (Schmit) Cook. In 1924 the family moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and the nine children were raised in Cheyenne Canyon attending Cheyenne Mountain School. Cookie loved to dance and was always asked by her teachers to dance for the students. While attended Colorado Springs High School she met her sweetheart, Sol R. Woolard. When he moved to California, he told Cookie when he saved $1000 she could move to California to marry him. The day she received his letter that he had saved the money., she took the first train she could find traveling in a freight train caboose to be with Sol in California. They first lived in Palm Springs, but settled in Long Beach. During the 1940s she taught tap dance and acrobatics. After 57 happy years, her husband Sol preceded her in death on March 11, 1991. In 1993 she moved to Santa Paula, California to live with her only child, Marcia and son-in-law, William. In 2003 she moved with the Eaton family to Oregon. She lived at Mountain View Senior Active Living apartments in Ashland where on Mondays during music time, she would enjoy the cheers from her friends for her dancing and “working the room.” 2007 she moved to her daughters home in Rogue River to enjoy the country life.

Survivors include her brother, Calve Cook of Sherwood Oaks, California; her daughter, Marcia Eaton and husband William of Rogue River, Oregon; three grandsons, William Eaton, Scott Eaton and Sean Eaton; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie Edwards, Devane Eaton, Hannah Eaton and Samantha Eaton; as well as many nieces and nephews.

No services are planned. Private interment will be beside her beloved husband, Sol at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
