Sherrill Lemule Bushnell

Sherrill Lemule Bushnell, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Providence Portland Medical Center.

A viewing from 12 noon to 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon, Saturday, November 14, 2009 at First Christian Church with Pastor Dave Price officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Sherrill was born April 30, 1920 in Powell Butte, Oregon to Lem & Bessie Bushnell. In 1932 at the age of 12 he moved with his family to Grants Pass where he attended Jerome Prairie School. On September 17, 1941 he joined the United States Navy. During World War II, he served as 1st Class Machinist aboard the USS Medusa, a repair ship in the South Pacific. He received the American Defense Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, and Good Conduct Ribbon before his honorable discharge on September 22, 1945. On June 1, 1945 in Medford he married Anna Marie Ritsch. Over the years while living in Grants Pass, he drove log truck; worked at Bates Lumber Company; and established and operated a daily home delivery bread route. After moving to Redmond, Oregon, from 1973 to 1977 he co-owned and operated Dave & Lem’s Produce in Redmond. In 1985 he returned to Grants Pass and worked for Westate, escorting trucks.

His hobbies included traveling, camping, fishing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed reading his Bible and taught several Bible studies.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Price and Shirley Barklow both of Grants Pass; two sons, Charles Bushnell of Albany, Georgia and Jim Bushnell of Grants Pass; a sister, Wanda King of Coquille; two brothers, Darrell Bushnell of Cave Junction and Bill Bushnell of Grants Pass; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Bushnell; a daughter, Sandra Bodine; two brothers, Merle Bushnell and Roy Bushnell; and two sisters, Madge Ritsch and Jean Wilkinson.
