Ruth D. Scanlon, age 85, of Grants Pass, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at her home.

Private interment was held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, Washington, DC 20006-3517.

She was born Ruth Darlene Vasey on November 12, 1924 in Pawnee, Nebraska to Lee & Maude Vasey. She grew up in Nebraska until age 11 when the family moved to Carlton, Oregon. After high school and two years of college, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in Portland, Oregon and served from 1945 to 1946 and earned the rank of Corporal. While serving in the USMC she met and married Jack Walters and they later divorced. In 1974 she married Thomas Scanlon who preceded her in death in 1991. For many years she worked as Vice President of Accounting Services at Prudential Savings and Loan in San Gabriel, California. In 1992 she moved from Covina, California to Grants Pass to be near her daughter.

Ruth was a member of Calvary Crossroads Church.

Her hobbies included reading mystery books and later listening to them on tape and working crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two daughters, Marci Oster of Eagle Point, Oregon and Dee Anne Pascale of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, Marc Walters of Saginaw, Michigan; a stepdaughter, Pat Scanlon of Sierra Madre, California; one brother and three sisters; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
