Ruth Anne Hutchinson

Ruth Anne Hutchinson, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, March 22, 2015.

She was born Ruthanne Gerard February 1, 1924 in Pryor, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school she moved to Portland, Oregon where she lived with relatives and worked for a photographic studio. She then joined the Women’s Marine Band and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. After her honorable discharge she returned to Oklahoma, attending Oklahoma A&M College where she met Clement Hutchinson, her professor. On June 4, 1948 in Russellville, Arkansas they were married. They moved to Southern California and had five children. They then moved to San Jose where they had two more children. Ruth returned to college, graduated and became a music teacher for 30 years at Raymond J. Fisher Middle School. After retiring she joined the San Jose Symphony; a Claremore, Oklahoma community band; Rogue Valley Symphony; and Ashland Community Band with her husband, Clement. In 2003 they moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Grants Pass.

Survivors include six children, Francis G. Hutchinson of Lake Tahoe, California, Margaret A. Schuessler and Clement H. Hutchinson both of Grants Pass, Oregon, Janet R. Mackay of Claremore, Oklahoma, Charles S. Hutchinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Robert J. Hutchinson of San Jose, California; and a sister, Esther Rader.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clement J. Hutchinson in 2009 and her son, Jamie B. Hutchinson.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Santa Cruz, California. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
