Ronald D. White

Ronald D. White, age 85, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at a residential care facility.

A viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 at Hull & Hull Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Ron was born February 21, 1925 in Tennant, California to James & Nina White. On November 7, 1942 in Reno, Nevada he married Joyce Dollarhide. He graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1942. On July 6, 1943 he began his service in the United States Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant on April 14, 1945. In 1950 Ron graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in architecture from University of California at Berkeley. He began work as an architect in 1950 in Grants Pass where he lived and worked for a short time before moving to San Francisco where he worked for Bolton White. In 1960 in San Francisco he established an architecture firm partnership with Schramm, White, and Wong that later became Schramm and White which had two locations in the San Francisco area and designed buildings throughout the United States. In 1970 he returned to Grants Pass and for a short time was acting manager at Southern Oregon Medical Center. Soon following, he began, Ronald D. White Architect which he owned and operated together with his wife until their retirement in 1993.

His memberships included Rotary, Elks, Grants Pass Golf Club, Parkway Christian Center, and Bethany Presbyterian Church.

His local architecture accomplishments among others include, Southern Oregon Medical Center, Greater Oregon Health Service, Rogue Community College Amphitheatre and Student Center, Josephine County Fairgrounds Flower Building, Bethany Presbyterian Church, Colonial Banks, Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, and other local financial institutions and residences.

He especially enjoyed golfing with family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Oliver of Grants Pass, Oregon; a son, Jeff White of Verona, Wisconsin; a sister, Dean Kelley of Eureka, California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce White; a son, Ronald White Jr.; two grandsons, Corey M. Oliver and Skyler S. White; a brother, Larry White; mother, Nina L. Johnson and father James J. White.
