Richard Vernon “Dick” Miller, age 70, of O’Brien, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at his home.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 20, 2009 at Community Bible Church in Cave Junction with Pastor Dave Gordon and Pastor Derick Smith officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Waldport Assembly of God Church Building Fund, PO Box 367, Waldport, Oregon 97394.
Dick was born November 9, 1939 in Los Angeles, California and raised in Sierra City, California. From September 3, 1958 to May 7, 1966 he served in the United States Coast Guard in Alameda, California as a training officer. He lived in Auburn, California and worked as a volunteer at the Rock Creek Fire Department. For most of his life he worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was also a supervisor for the Placer County Roads Department. On July 3, 1983 in Auburn, California he married Charlotte Ann Tate. They moved from Foresthill, California to Yachats, Oregon in 2000 and in 2006 they moved to O’Brien. Currently he was a Fire Prevention Officer for Illinois Valley Fire District.
He was a member of the Waldport Assembly of God for over 8 years in Waldport and together with his wife he was a member of the Lions Club in Yachats. Currently he was still working on the Waldport Assembly of God Church Building.
His hobbies included drawing up maps for fire hydrants location and residential mapping for fire planning. He was also an amateur World War II historian.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Ann Miller of O’Brien; two sons, Tim Johnson and Mark Johnson, both of Roseville, California; a daughter, Jeanie Wood of Sacramento, California; a sister, Laural Miller of Citrus Heights, California and five grandchildren.
