Richard D. Jameson

Richard D. Jameson, age 85, of Rogue River, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at his home.

A graveside service with military honors will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 28, 2008 at Eagle Point National Cemetery with Sergeant Mark Dalton officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born June 10, 1923 in Visalia, California to Laurance & Edith (Price) Jameson. He was raised on Powell Ranch and lived in Tulare, California. In his teen years, he moved to Sacramento where he graduated from high school and was a record holding pole vaulter. At age 17 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for 20 years and held the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During World War II he was a Prisoner of War for 42 months, captured by the Japanese in the conflict of Bataan and Corregidor. He moved to Rogue River 46 years ago.

He was a member of the American Defenders of Bataan & Corregidor, American Ex-Prisoners of War, a life member of both the National Rifle Association and Single Action Shooting Society; and a past Mason.

At age 65 he learned to fly and built his own plane. In his later 70s and 80s he competed in cowboy action shooting and was an Oregon State Champion. He also enjoyed classic cars.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda L. Jameson of Washington; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard D. Jameson II and a brother, Bradion Jameson.
