Randy Allen Hummel

July 12, 1963 — April 19, 2017

Randy Allen Hummel passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the age of 53.

Randy is survived by his Mother Mary Pankey, his twin-sister RoxAnn Poulton and brother-in-law Gary Poulton, as well as his oldest sister Denise Henry and brother-in-law Bill Henry. Randy was pre-deceased by his baby sister Micki Pankey. Randy is lovingly remembered by his nephews Christopher Putrzenski, Reece Poulton and his wife Neha Poulton, Collin Poulton; many cousins, second-cousins, and aunts and uncles.

Randy was a local boy, born in Grants Pass, in July 1963. Randy lived a life of many passions. He earned his GED and his U.S. Coast Guard 100-Ton Captains’ License at the age of 35. After obtaining his captains’ license, Randy moved to Ketchikan, Alaska where he shared his love of cooking and fishing with the guests of Salmon Falls Resort for many years. When he wasn’t working for Salmon Falls Resort, Randy also obtained an CDL and drove trucks from Tillamook, Oregon to Minot, North Dakota and all stops in-between. There was nothing Randy could not fix, repair, or do. Randy mastered every task he ever undertook and he did it with the greatest of ease, grace and a sense of humor; he was a jack of all trades, and a master of all.

While Randy cooked professionally, he loved entertaining his friends and family best of all. In his personal time, Randy enjoyed Law and Order SVU, true crime novels, and country music. He was famous for making homemade ravioli, pickles, and Crme Brule. A true Southern Oregon outdoorsman, Randy truly enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking and could be found in the mountains surrounding Sunny Valley or along the Rogue or Columbia rivers.

Randy wanted to be cremated, and his family is honoring that wish.
There will be a celebration of life on May 27, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00, pot luck following, with friendship and fellowship gathering at the Old Town Hall in Sunny Valley Oregon.
