Nancy Ann Swinney

Nancy Ann Swinney, age 62, of Grants Pass, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors with Chaplain John Braund officiating.

Nancy was born February 8, 1948 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. As an infant she was adopted by Robert & Rosemary Stewart and was raised by the Stewart Family in Woodland Hills, California. In 1965 she graduated from Taft High School. She worked for Litton in Woodland Hills before moving to Grants Pass in 1978 and continuing her work at Litton until 1990. At that time she helped in the design, building, and daily operations of Applegate Golf course until 2006. On May 12, 2006 in Bend, Oregon she married Kelly Polk.

For many years she was an active supporter of women’s golf and junior golf in the Grants Pass area.

Nancy loved the outdoors, hard work, golfing, and road trips.

In addition to her husband, Kelly Polk of Grants Pass; she is survived by a son, Matthew Swinney of Midland, Texas; three sisters, Brenda Cleary of Euclid, Ohio, Linda Cox of Manchester, Tennessee, and Diane Hershman of Manchester, Tennessee; three brothers, John Stewart of Great Falls, Montana, Richard Stewart of Lincoln, California, and David Gipson of Manchester, Tennessee; her birth mother, Janie Gipson of Manchester, Tennessee; and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Rosemary Stewart; her birth father, Hollis Gipson; and a brother, Jimmy Gipson.
