Michael Robert Hill

March 29, 1944 — July 12, 2011

Michael Robert Hill, age 67, of Sunny Valley, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at his home after a two year battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Merlin Ward. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, Washington. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Michael was born March 29, 1944 in New York, New York to John & Elizabeth Hill. He worked as a structural iron worker/connector on high rise buildings such as the World Trade Center, Grand Central Station, Columbia University and many others in New York as well as Portland, Oregon, Seattle, Washington and numerous power houses throughout the country. He also worked on many bridges in New York. In 2001 he purchased property in Sunny Valley, Oregon and after his retirement in New York on May 5, 2003 he moved to Sunny Valley permanently where he built his paradise. He enjoyed his retirement, working to make his part of the world a beautiful place, and indeed he did. He learned about nature, “Becoming an Oregon Farmer”.

Since 1964 he was a member of the International Iron Workers Union Brooklyn Local 361.

Michael loved riding motorcycles, racing in his younger years and even in the last week of his life he rode along the beautiful Oregon countryside.

Survivors include his wife whom he married in 1978, Patricia E. Hill; a son, Michael Hill, Jr., a daughter, Michele Teresa Hill; a granddaughter, Caitlyn Bailey Hill; three stepsons, Russell Bryan, Billy Bryan and Douglas Bryan; seven step-grandchildren, Erica, Dennis, Shelby, Hailey, Allie, Hunter and Samuel; and two great-grandchildren, Mariah and Nathan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Reed Jones Hill and John Clinton Hill; and a stepson, Kirk Bryan.
