Merwan Leroy "Roy" Spencer

Merwan LeRoy “Roy” Spencer, a resident of Grants Pass, OR passed away at the age of 80 on August 18, 2010 at the Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass, due to complications brought on by Alzheimer’s disease and pneumonia.

Roy was born August 16, 1930 in Oakland, CA, the youngest child of LeRoy and Iva Spencer, and the younger sibling of Jennie Gagon and George Spencer.

Roy was educated at San Francisco State University, studying Electrical Engineering. He continued his education with the United States Army while serving in Germany during the Korean War.

Roy was married to Dolores Cabeceira on March 10, 1951 and was blessed with five boys: Russ, Barry, Dane, Kris, and Jason.

Roy spent his first few years working at RCA as a Repair Technician. In his later years he worked for Dalmo Victor as a Microwave Engineer for 38 years in San Carlos, California.

Roy was remarried to Gloria May Wolff on June 15, 1991 and was blessed with two additional sons through marriage: Ken and Jeff Foody.

After retiring and raising the last of his sons in Belmont, CA, he sold his home and finally moved to his dream home on a 30-acre spread in Grant Pass, OR.

His life was spent in the service of others, especially through opportunities with his devotion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Gloria and six of his sons, who blessed his life with 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He will be welcomed with open arms on the other side by his parents, siblings and his son, Dane, who had an untimely death at the age of 12, along with his many beloved Labrador retrievers and horses.

A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Stake Center on 1969 Williams Highway in Grants Pass, OR. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will follow at the Eagle Point National Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
