Mayme Alma Chumley

October 28, 1927 — December 22, 2016

Mayme Alma Chumley, age 89, a 43 year resident of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away at her home on January 6, 2017, with family around her.

Mayme was born on October 28, 1927, to parents Elizabeth and Arthur Cuff in Bonavista, Newfoundland, Canada.

She and her family also lived in Georgia and Kansas before settling down in the Rogue Valley.

She and her husband, Walter Chumley were married for 60 plus years.

She dearly loved God, Country and her family. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Grants Pass, for over 30 years and served as a church elder.

She brightened any room she entered, along with the lives she touched, by her sunny smile and joyful laugh.

Mayme lived to serve others. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and wonderful grandmother. She spent much of her time sewing and crocheting baby blankets and hats for local charities and hospitals. She also sewed quilts for those less fortunate. When she wasn’t sewing or quilting or crocheting, you would find Mayme at any of the local food banks and a tireless supporter of Christian Service Network. Additionally, she was a prayer warrior for our family, church and community.

She is survived by her brother, Reuben Cuff of Newfoundland, Canada; son, Ray (Bernadette) Chumley of Woodland, WA; daughters, Theresa (Charles) Travis of Grants Pass, Sandy (David) Andre of LaCenter, WA, and Ruth (Terall) Blalock of Grants Pass; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mayme was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; daughters, Delores Williamson, Annie Lehman and Donna Chumley; and brothers, Bill and Arthur Cuff.

She will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of Mayme’s life will be held at 3 p.m., on
Saturday, January 28, 2017, at First Christian Church,
305 SW H Street, Grants Pass.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made,
in Mayme’s name, to the Roc Food Pantry, in Grants Pass, OR.
