Mattie Alice Moore

Mattie Alice Moore was born March 22, 1910 at Cove, Arkansas to Joseph Farrington Allen and Lois Roberta “Bertie” (Slaton) Allen. She passed away at her home on December 22, 2013. She had 3 sisters and 1 brother (all deceased).

In 1929 she married Fred Mayberry (deceased 1936). They had 3 daughters: Mildred Burgess of Brookings, Oregon, Verlin McGaha (deceased 2013) of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Shirley Davis of Coos Bay, Oregon.

November 23, 1940 Mattie married Elbert Ewing Moore. They were married 55 years. They had 2 children: Elbert Gale Moore (deceased 2007) of Sutherlin, Oregon, and Linda Shaw of Cave Junction, they also raised their niece Starlene Moore (as their own daughter) of Grants Pass, Oregon.

Mattie has lived in the valley since 1948. She was a Jehovah Witness for over 48 years.

Mattie had worked in a restaurant in Oklahoma, the lilies in Smith River, California, the James Boy Home in Cave Junction, Oregon, and a nursing home in Grants Pass, Oregon. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and canning.

Mattie had 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 28 great -great grandchildren. We would like to thank the many caregivers, especially Ross Berubee and Liala Erickson for enduring to the end.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors. Interment will follow at Laurel Cemetery. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
