Matilda "Tillie" Baker

Matilda “Tillie” Baker, age 93, of Grants Pass, passed away at her home on August 7, 2021.

Tillie was born April 10, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Matilda Matejcik, brothers Edward, Leo, Joseph and Paul Matejcik. She graduated high school in Detroit and went to work for the Michigan Bell Telephone Co. Later transferring to Santa Monica Telephone in California. Marry John in September 1955 they had two sons and were transferred to Denmark for Johns job where they enjoyed traveling through Europe, returning to California in 1961. After having their 3rd son, they lived in Merritt Island, Florida, Quartz Hill, California and Benton City, Washington finally settling in Grants Pass in 1989. Tillie enjoyed traveling in which they did for about 15 years after retirement as snowbirds visiting all states except Hawaii. She enjoyed painting, pottery, reading, sewing, crocheting, baking, gardening and so much more and being family and friends.

She leaves behind her husband John of 65 years 11 months; and sons John, Ed (Cindy) and Mark; 4 granddaughters Lori, Katie (Brandt), Christine (Dan), and Amber; grandson John; 7 great-grandsons James, Tanner, Dylan, Chace, Parker, Wyatt and Trent; great-stepgranddaughter Kristyn; many nieces and nephews; and one remaining sister-in-law Carol Matejcik of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Tillie will be missed by many and leaves memories behind for her family and the wonderful caregivers she has had over the years.
