Mary Lou York

January 17, 1925 — March 29, 2014

Mary Lou York, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at her home.

A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Missouri Flat Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Mary’s home. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to a charity of choice.

Mary was born January 17, 1925 in Germantown, Ohio to Jackson Morgan Wells Sr & Sarah Cornett Wells. At age 16 she started working at her father’s grocery store. She graduated from high school in Stockton, California. In 1942 she married Robert Alton Powers and they had three children before later divorcing. In 1956 she moved from Stockton to Grants Pass and in 1973 in Grants Pass she married Joseph Eugene York.

Mary was a member of the Retail Clerks Union.

She loved her cat named “Baby” and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, making things for them, and supporting their activities. Her hobbies included crocheting, panning for gold on her creek at home, and hunting. As a young mom, she also enjoyed playing golf with her son.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Dellaragione of Redding, California, Jennifer Paulson of Albany, Oregon; a stepdaughter, Sandra Krouse of Grants Pass, Oregon; a daughter-in-law, Chanta Powers of Medford, Oregon; a sister, Artha Winans of Stockton, California; a brother, David Wells of Stockton, California; six grandchildren, Tami, Gina, Craig, Sarah, Snow, and Sunshine; and four great-grandchildren, Natalie, Andrew, Adam, and Lex.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Eugene York on February 10, 2008 and her son, Robert Alton Powers Jr.
