Mary Jo Mckenzie Peebles Johnson

October 2, 1941 — July 12, 2020

Mary Jo McKenzie Peebles Johnson passed away July 12th peacefully at home with her family around.

Jo was born October 2, 1941 in Eugene Oregon. She was a 4th generation lifelong Oregonian. Jo was 8 yrs old when her family moved to Rogue River where she attended Rogue River Schools and Graduated in 1959 from Rogue River High School.

As a child Jo loved to ride horses and would spend hours riding in the mountains around Rogue River.

Jo married Larry Peebles in 1961 but never moved far from Rogue River. They moved back to Rogue River for good in 1972. Jo had two children Scott born 1963 and Pamela born 1965. Jo worked for 29 years for the Rogue River School District before retiring.

Jo married Eddie Johnson in 2003. Together they traveled across the United States and spent many good times with friends and family.

When Jo was 70 she had a goal to ride horses in Dressage horse shows and started taking lessons several days a week. In 2015 she accomplished her goal and road in the Century Club Show (combined age of horse and rider are 100). Throughout her life Jo had a love for cats. She also loved bird watching and gardening and it showed with her beautiful yard.

Jo is survived by her husband Eddie Johnson of Rogue River OR, Son Scott and daughter-in-law Angie Peebles of Prineville OR, Daughter Pam and son-in-law Russ McAdams of Prineville OR, 2 Grandkids Curtis Peebles of Prineville OR & Nicole Smith of Cloverdale OR, 7 Great Grandkids Emmah, Aidyne, Paislee, Jocelyn, Ashtyn, Harrison, and Calvin, 3 Step children, Denise Byrd of NC, Mike Johnson of CA Candace Claire Of WA.

Jo was proceeded in death by her Parents Harold and Edith (Jackie) McKenzie, brother Del McKenzie, and Husband Larry Peebles.

Small celebration of life will be held for close friends and family.
