Mary Frances "Sam" Coyne

Mary Frances “Sam” Coyne, age 64, of Cave Junction, died Sunday, September 6, 2009 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 18, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Illinois Valley Funeral Directors.

She was born October 9, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois to Clarence & Ruth Pankey. In 1962 she graduated from high school in Longwood, Florida. She then joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1965. On April 2, 1965 in Enterprise, Alabama she married Leslie Coyne. For four years she worked as bookkeeper in Illinois before attended nursing school from 1980 to 1982 and graduated as a licensed practical nurse. Later after moving to Nevada, she worked for many years as an accountant for different companies. In 2004 she moved from Nevada to Cave Junction.

She volunteered with Make-A-Wish foundation and trained their volunteers. She also volunteered at the Illinois Valley Senior Center, was vice-president for two years there, and helped out with the Senior Thrift Store.

Her hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening; embroidery; ceramics; collecting oil lamps; traveling; reading; and raising her chickens and dogs. She enjoyed giving to others and giving blood for others.

In addition to her husband, Leslie E. Coyne; survivors include a son, Ken Coyne; a daughter, Wendy Imerti all of Cave Junction; a sister, Delilah Inman of Florida, Jolene Hall and Susan McCurry both of Tennesse; a brother, Charles Pankey of Tennessee; and two grandchildren.
